Deep Fried Camping

Residential Vegetable Oil Recycling

Are you a fan of deep fried everything? Are you among the intrepid chefs who boldly fry turkeys for the holidays? Ever fry a turkey in the woods? Not sure of what to do with all those gallons of used vegetable oil? Fat, oil and grease can cause serious problems for your plumbing, municipal sewer systems, and ultimately the environment. So whatever you do, please don’t pour oil down your sink or down a storm drain in a street. And if you are camping like my friend here, don’t pour it in the woods or the porta potties either! Instead, please do as she did, and let us help you recycle your waste vegetable oil (WVO) in an environmentally friendly way for FREE!

(Sorry Folks, but I can only collect wvo in Massachusetts where I live. But if you write to me with your location,  I can help you find someone closer to you to help you out.)

Here’s how it works:

  1. We can take any vegetable oil including: Canola, Soy, Corn, Peanut, Olive, and Sesame to name a few. If you have any questions about any other kind of vegetable oil, just ask us.
  2. Allow the waste vegetable oil to cool.
  3. If you have a strainer, use it to filter out solid food particles from the WVO. Dispose of the greasy food particles into the garbage, not down a sink disposal.
  4. Pour the WVO into a plastic container with a lid. (It’s best to transfer the WVO back into the original plastic container it came in. Unfortunately, we cannot accept glass or metal containers. If your oil came in a glass or metal container, please pour your WVO into a CLEAN and DRY plastic container like a plastic milk jug. It is very important to make sure the container has NO residual milk or water in it before you pour in the grease.
  5. Use a spatula to get the most grease possible out of your fryer and into the container.
  6. Cap the container and keep your WVO free of water at all times.
  7. Wipe the spatula and other oily utensils and cookware with a disposable cloth before washing. Throw the oily cloth away in your garbage to keep excess FOG out of the sewer system.
  8. Email us at Info@GreatGreenAmbulance.com to arrange for FREE pick up.

Restaurant Vegetable Oil Recycling

Restaurants are facing increasing expenses to properly dispose of their waste vegetable oil. We want to help your restaurant recycle its waste vegetable oil for FREE. Here’s how it works:

  1. When you change the vegetable oil in your deep fryers, funnel it back into the original containers it came in. Seal the container with the original cap, making sure that no water gets into the container and that the cap is closed tightly.
  2. If you can’t return it to the original container, we can take it in plastic food grade five gallon buckets. Please make sure you have wiped the bucket out to make sure it is clean and dry before you pour in the oil. Excess water can make the oil unusable for us. Place a cover on the bucket to seal it against any water or rain getting into the container.
  3. Email us at info@GreatGreenAmbulance.com or call 508-965-8182 to arrange for FREE vegetable oil pick up. If it is more convenient for you we can also arrange a regular pick up time and day.

It’s that simple. Your recycled waste vegetable oil will be used to power the Great Green Ambulance which is a greasecar. Greasecars are diesel vehicles which have been specially modified to run on recycled WVO, Diesel engines which run on WVO produce no sulphuric emissions and are far less toxic to the environment. Every gallon of waste vegetable oil we keep out of municipal sewer systems saves money while being good for the environments too.

Working together, we can all be environmental heroes.

Save the Grease. Save the World!
